Leading the way in Parrot Aviculture, Conservation and Companion Birds

It has been our pleasure to put this site together for the benefit and enjoyment of all who have an interest in these wonderful birds, wherever you may reside in the world.

Parrots hold a special place in the history of humankind. Their character, beautiful colours, antics and ability to mimic the human voice have endeared them to humans throughout the ages.

The Parrot Society of Australia is a world-class society devoted exclusively to the breeding, care and conservation of all parrot species. Our endeavours are guided by best-practice principles and a code of ethics. We aim to set the standard by which others are judged.

Please take the time to browse through our must-see site full of interesting information and graphics on keeping and breeding parrots, companion parrot ownership and parrot conservation and research.

It is our intention to continually upgrade and enhance this site, so please be sure to make a return visit.

Aviculture: A Personal Journey

Scott Hovelroud has travelled a bumpy road as an aviculturist, experiencing the highs and lows that are the trials and tribulations of our hobby. With the support of his wife Jeannie, Scott knows all too well about what it means to be a resilient aviculturist and to persist when most would throw their hands up in despair. Their exotic parrot collection is now paying dividends after humble beginnings through their hard work and experience. It is this knowledge and experience which Scott intends to share in his presentation including some of the insights he has learnt over the years to help others with their own avicultural journey. He will discuss many aspects of his avian management from species choices, housing, hand rearing, mate compatibility and selection as well as acquiring stock and helpful hints. Scott and Jeannie's current collection includes Quakers, Conures, African Greys, Amazons and Macaws to name a few. If you are searching for some general avicultural guidance and motivation from personal experience, then this will be a presentation not to be missed.
